Aid for injured and displaced Ukrainians.

There is a lot of history behind Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The bottom line, however, is this: war has been made on a sovereign state and on a people who want to live in peace and who, for the most part, want a homeland independent of their Russian neighbour.

In this note, I do not wish to unravel or try to explain how Ukraine has come to suffer so much as it is suffering today. The present facts are bald: people are dying and being maimed; people are being rendered homeless and displaced; refugees – wives and children separated from their husbands and fathers – are flying across Ukraine’s borders; food and medical supplies are disrupted and running low; wounded soldiers and civilians are increasing in number and are in need of aid and comfort.

So, right now, can we be practical?

Anyone wishing to assist displaced and injured Ukrainians can do so via a portal managed by the Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations:

The Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations (AFUO) is chaired by Mr Stefan Romaniw OAM. (See the AFUO website here: https://www.ozeukes.com/)

The AFUO manages the Ukraine Crisis Appeal in partnership with Rotary and Caritas Ukraine. Rotary acts, on behalf of the AFUO, as the appeal’s collection vehicle. The money is then disbursed to Caritas Ukraine to support projects identified in collaboration with the AFUO and their agents on the ground in Ukraine.

The Ukraine Crisis Appeal website provides a portal through which donations can be made and a description of their current aid projects.

Donations to the Ukraine Crisis Appeal are tax deductible. Receipts for donations are automatically generated and despatched to your email address.
