Politics with joy

Puttin’ on the Ritz in Moscow: a gloriously happy way to do politics.

A comment by Gary Scarrabelotti

Feeling tired of politics? You reckon there’s no hope. Well, get married instead and celebrate!

Here’s how to do it. The scene is the Sparrow Hills lookout on Moscow State University’s University Square. It’s a week out from Russia’s March 4 presidential elections. Young and allegedly disillusioned Muscovites celebrated there a wedding in style with a rendition of Fred Astaire’s Puttin’ on the Ritz. Exuberant. Funny. Happy. Laden with gently mocking political ironies. It’s politics with a sense of humour. Wish we had some here.

Here’s Moscow.

And here’s the original.

Way to go!
